The Town recently signed a subdivision agreement with Snyder Development Corporation Inc. for Phase three of the Woodlands Plan of Subdivision with 15-single dwelling lots fronting on Acton Dr. in Port Elgin.
The lands, near the Lake Huron shoreline and south of Concession 10, are part of a 52-unit development. Five of 15 units in Phase three will have provisions for additional dwelling units
.
During council debate on the subdivision agreement Deputy mayor Diane Huber raised potential safety concerns with the one-way in and out of he development, and asked when Acton Dr. would be extended to Concession 10, or a potential connection to Cutter Rd. would be made of an unopened road allowance in the area used.
Staff said any concerns about safety would have been resolved when the subdivision plan was approved in 2021,and the developer had not provided a time schedule for future phases.

Connecting link applications
The Town will apply for two provincial grants totalling $4 million for work in Southampton on two sections of Connecting Links– sections of provincially-owned highways that are maintained by the Town.
The projects for 2325/26 include resurfacing of Highway 21 from South St. to Craig St., and Turner St. and Highway 21 intersection improvements.
The province will foot 90 per cent of the bill and councillors approved the Town’s $449,900, or 10 percent share recently. The multi-year – until 2028 – Connecting Link plan includes $1 million in Town contributions.
Connecting Link funding for the McNabb St./Highway 21 intersection at the Beer Store and Perkins Park, was rejected by the province as the traffic warrants were not met but were close.
With growth, staff said the warrants might be met and the Town could resubmit the application for 2027/28. The plan calls for another traffic count at McNabb/ Highway 21 in 2026; a reevaluation of the warrant for signals or a roundabout situation.
Staff also said the resurfacing work on the Connecting Link in Port Elgin – Highway 21 (Goderich St.) from Concession 6 to Concession 10 – will be postponed to the spring and fall of next year, not this fall as was planned, with a completion date of March 2026.

Cell service
Saugeen Shores councillors joined a request to the federal government for improved rural and urban cellular service. Council endorsed a resolution from the Town of Plympton-Wyoming asking Ottawa to make it a priority to push forward with their commitment to provide crucial cellular infrastructure in a meaningful and timely manner.
It also called for action and enforcement of the regulations that mandate timely installation of approved cell Tower Installation to ensure reliability and confidence in the telecommunications system.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau said the Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology board – which he sits on –studied underserviced cellular service areas across the province.
“Our area – Bruce County and Grey County – are among the worst served in terms of cellular service in the province…” he said, adding it is worthwhile for the Town to advocate for improved service.
The Plympton-Wyoming resolution said the health and well-being of our community is at the mercy of the Federal Government taking the matter seriously with action to reduce the harm on residents and allow emergency services to perform at urban standards.
